MDI Limited Partnership #56 plans to create mixed income general occupancy housing in the historic Linograph Company, Davenport, IA. It was constructed in 1900. The building has been the Salvation Army building in recent years.
The building’s external appearance will be maintained. This will be accomplished through retaining and restoring the existing details, openings, window locations, window historic window profiles, and entries. Existing entries will be maintained and refurbished.
The historical defining interior spaces will be retained. Existing door locations along with defining details, trim and textures will also be retained. The building includes 1 elevator shaft. The intent of the interior design will be to reflect the historic location and use of the interior spaces. The building will be designed for full accessibility to all units on all levels.
The Linograph Company has approximately 48,000 square feet of space. The facility will be converted into full-sized one, two, and three-bedroom apartments complete with a combined living and dining area, full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom(s) and closet/storage area(s). Units are anticipated to be 700, 900, and 1100 sqft respectively. The interior unit construction will consist of new partition walls, doors, frames and cabinets. The entire building, in addition to restoring significant elements, will include new fixtures, flooring, electrical systems, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, roof, windows and finishes. The corridors, stair towers and common spaces will integrate the original details to the extent that it still exists throughout the building. The building will have a community room, fitness room, laundry rooms and storage areas for the residents.
